friday. 80%? take over/under. >> it is thanksgiving week, the media does nothing but black friday stories. and all those people stampeding each other at the best buy. also this morning, what agony. a man in maine has had the hiccups for two weeks, and he's running out of remedies as well as out of patience. turns out he is not the only one rushed to the hospital looking for that hiccup cure. >> hiccup hangover, right. later, last night's amas, american music awards, who's taking home big honors, captured attention on stage and red carpet. we'll take you live to los angeles coming up in just a moment. >> i know you were here early. did you get a chance to watch anything or check them out? >> i felt like every time i looked up, justin bieber was accepting the award. no, thank you. >> you did see the show. he was happy. big award. puberty all in the same week. big night for him. the head of the u.n. is

urging both sides to declare an immediate cease-fire. but that does not appear very likely. >> there were no signs of any let-up in the fight as israel announced it was widening the offense to target military commanders of hamas. abc's lama hasan reports from jerusalem. >> reporter: palestinians continue to fire rockets at israel. and israel continues to retaliate. civilian casualties are mounting. this woman was pulled alive from the rubble. others weren't so lucky. palestinian authorities say 11 civilians died in this house, including children. israel says it was targeting an islamic jihad rocket mastermind. more than 60 palestinians have been killed so far. israel blames hamas. >> it is obviously incredibly tense. and despite the back-and-forth, we do get the impression that a huge overall effort is being made to try to get a cease fire.

>> reporter: as diplomats work for a cease-fire, prime minister benjamin netanyahu says his government is preparing to expand military operations. israel is amassing tanks and troops at the gaza border for possible ground invasion. in israel, the eerie wail of air raid sirens echoes in the streets. three israelis have died so far in the hamas attacks. two rockets struck these residential buildings in the southern city of ashkelon but caused no serious injuries. neither side shows any sign of breaking the circle of violence. lama hasan, abc news, jerusalem. >> our thanks to lama. well, president obama is on a historic visit to the southeast nation asian of myanmar. while he is there, mr. obama will be meeting with myanmar's prime minister and the nobel peace prize winning democracy advocate aung san suu kyi. the president will also deliver an address in which he will

praise myanmar's progress toward democracy and urge it to make further reforms. myanmar is also known as burma. well, vice president joe biden was much closer to home, getting a firsthand look at the new jersey coastline that, of course, was devastated by superstorm sandy. the vice president toured hard-hit seaside heights and later surveyed damage in hoboken, new jersey. he met with about 50 first responders and receiving a briefing pledging federal support. biden said rebuilding is a, quote, national respondent. we have new developments this morning in the cia sex scandal. a person close to david petraeus' biographer paula broad well says she is devastated by the fallout of her affair with the former cia chief. broadwell is back in the south with her husband and her sons after a week in washington. this is them arriving at their home. friends say broadwell is trying to repair damage done to her family by the affair. her husband, you can see her prodding him to go in the house. he said that he will have a statement sometime soon.

but she's still being investigated by the fbi over the classified documents, which they don't believe to be anything incriminating. she didn't get them from david petraeus. the fbi found no further reason to investigate petraeus. >> you have to wonder on a human level, how do the two marriages survive. petraeus' marriage, together 40 years. this marriage here, according to neighbors, seemingly a loving couple, two lovely kids. you have to wonder behind closed doors, conversations we won't be privy to, if both or either marriage will survive infidelity. very personal call. you wonder what that fallout may look like. >> right. the source close to paula broadwell, who said that, you know, she's devastated by what she did to her family. she also said that they were completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the neighbors who welcomed them back into their home yesterday as well. >> a lot going on. all right.

it hurts. he's lost weight. he ended up in the hospital. abc's mark greenblat is documenting this. >> reporter: for the last 13 days for nearly every wake hour, mickey cheney tried just about everything you could imagine to get the hiccups to stop. all to no avail. >> i drank red apple vinegar. i, sat upside down. drank water. >> reporter: the problem eventually landed cheney in a hospital in portland, maine, earlier this month. his worried wife says it's become a serious health concern. >> i've watched 15 pounds slide off of him in the past 12 days. >> reporter: it all began as he was at work making deliveries for ups. >> first i was thinking it's got to go away. it hurts. it is like basically doing a sit-up every time i hiccup. >> reporter: doctors thought the cause was severe heartburn and sent him home with strong prescription medicines. he couldn't stop. >> you can imagine doing that several times a minute.

fighting enters its sixth day. >> the mounting civilian death toll is likely to put pressure on israel to go with the cease-fire. abc's alex marquardt is there in gaza city. >> reporter: in one incident, 11 people were killed -- almost all of them from a single family. this as palestinian militants continue firing rockets into israel, the military says almost 1,000 of them so far. the thick smoke of the israeli air strike. one of the most densely populated places on earth. this is that house that was hit and it's now completely collapsed. and around here, two bulldozers, emergency crews, and anybody around digging through the rubble trying to find anybody who survived. the israeli military was targeting a hamas rocket maker and hit a house that wasn't his. those dead included four children and five women. and tempers are now flaring. more than 70 palestinians have been killed in the past five days. the wounded number almost 700. israel struck two buildings with hamas and international media offices. they said they knew journalists were there but that hamas was

using the building for operational communications. six journalists were wounded. this as hamas and the other militant groups kept up the onslaught of rockets flying into israel. many of them launched from those populated areas. gazans say they're skeptical about the chances of any real cease-fire. they've told us they've seen simply too many of them agreed to and then broken. alex marquardt, abc news, gaza strip. there were noisy protests in yemen as people voiced their anger against israeli air strikes on gaza. thousands marched through the yemeni capital, chanting anti-israel slogans and waving palestinian and hamas flags. one of the signs they carried read, quote, palestine, you are in our hearts. also, hundreds of jewish worshippers have gathered, near the western wall in jerusalem for a mass prayer in support of israelis living in the south of the country.

that's where most hamas strikes have hit. israeli leaders claim they're doing everything they can to avoid killing or injuring civilians. and president obama is now the first american leader to visit the southeast asian nation of myanmar, which is also known as burma. while he's there, mr. obama is meeting with myanmar's prime minister as well as democracy leaders, including nobel peace winner aung san suu kyi. he's making a speech in which he will urge myanmar to continue on the road to democracy, but again, a monumental visit. mentioned the first u.s. president to visit. he says in the last year and a half, myanmar has loosened the grip of dictatorship, freed hundreds of political prisoners, and ushered in a civilian government, and that the flickers of progress must not be extinguished. >> some critics have said, look, this trip is a little premature. obviously it's a democracy in the making. the president said an acknowledgement of the country's democratic progress but not an endorsement. so he's kind of walking a thin line there, saying they're moving in the right direction but they're not there quite yet.

but obviously a groundbreaking trip for the president and the country as well. >> uh-huh. moving on to other news this morning, police here in new york are searching for a possible serial killer. there is police tape and an officer at the scene of the latest of three murders, all of which were committed with the very same gun. all of the victims were shopkeepers of middle eastern descent. at this point police have no dna evidence from any of the scenes and no video evidence either. a $22,000 reward is being offered for any information. the future of hostess twinkies remains up in the air this morning after a crippling strike. hostess is heading to bankruptcy court in new york with a plan to shut down plants and sell off its assets. union workers are holding out hope that another company will buy hostess and keep most of its employees. the world's largest bread baker, mexico's grupo bimbo is reportedly amongst those showing interest in acquiring hostess. >> sounds delicious.

if the hostess brands do not survive, it would mean the end of a texas state fair favorite. the lone star state is home to the very popular deep fried twinkies. more than 80,000 of them have been sold in the last decade. and now the vendors who fry up those twinkies are hoping they can continue to make those improvised snacks. >> dip it in the batter. do it on a stick. fry them for a couple of minutes until the creamy center melts into the cake. and then we offer powdered sugar with chocolate sauce or mixed berry. >> oh, my word. >> twinkies have been flying off the shelves along with ho-hos, ding dongs, and zingers as people across the country are stocking up. twinkies are popping up on e-bay. get this -- for as much as $60 a box. >> they are ding dongs. we got e-mails and our twitter followers were saying there are king dongs.

father, daughter, and son team, an entire family of criminals suspected of holding uf seven banks in at least two states. ronald scott catt and son hayden were arrested outside houston. investigators say that's hayden wearing a fake mustache. 18-year-old daughter abby is charged with driving the getaway car. both children who lost their mother at a young age were honor students back home in oregon. haden was a star on his high school swim team. eric lundeen knew the family. >> you know, he was a single dad, and he had the responsibility to take care of those kids. and i've got to tell you. scott was there for them. >> reporter: police now suspect the seemingly all-american family robbed as many as five banks back in oregon before scott moved his kids to texas. >> it's a complete shock. they were really solid community members. >> reporter: it's flashback to another crime family, the dougherty gang.

first of all, here are the big winners, put up the lovely graphics. new artist of the year, carly rae jepsen. you know her song. sing it, paula. you love that song. ♪ call me maybe "call me maybe" girl won new artist. rap hip-hop, nicki minaj. whole interesting number in snowfall, big pink hair and all this kind of stuff. then favorite female artist went to country star taylor swift. she is having like an incredible year. her streak continues. favorite band, duo, group, pop, rock went to maroon five. congratulations to those fellows. artist of the year big cheese award last night went to justin bieber. the 18-year-old pop sensation cleans up. of course, people on shows like this always like to talk about the big performances. there were quite a few last night, including one toward the end of the show when psy came out and did his ubiquitous hit, "gangnam style." guess who made a cameo in this one? that's right. mc hammer came out.

psy was wearing the crazy -- >> it was legit. >> what were the pants? >> hammer pants. >> hammer pants. mc hammer comes out. dancing. a cool little taste of the show. also, pink gave an interesting, i thought best performance of the night. kind of this real intricate dance number with the guy around the house and fire. she looked really good last night. then we had, taylor swift. you know, carly rae jepsen, usher, kelly clarkson. a good night all the way around last night. congrats to all of the winners, including the beans. >> who won 500 awards. >> indeed. jessica simpson should be winning awards for taking off -- looks like almost all her baby weight -- had baby maxwell may 1st. may, june, july -- almost seven months ago. a picture she tweeted out from a weight watcher's commercial. showed off the slimmed down figure in those ripped jeans, nice little cardigan or jacket that she's got on. but, yeah, looks like she dropped close to 60 pounds. >> the reason i picked the story is because everyone was giving her so much grief. >> they did give her a lot of

grief. >> because she did gain a lot of weight during her pregnancy. seemed like she was pregnant for 400 years. she gained all that weight. now let's turn the tables. and give her credit for getting back in shape. looking great. a beautiful girl. now back in her fighting shape. great to see her looking good again, post-mommyhood. >> take the weight off. kudos for her for not just buying into hollywood for saying i'm going to eat lettuce and greens my entire pregnancy. >> she had to do it all in the public eye, which i think is even tougher. and "sn "l" could not help itself. this weekend, the david petraeus scandal. spoofed paula broadwell, reading from her book "all in," but they kind of took creative liberties with what the book could have said. take a listen. >> part one, province, afghanistan, september 2010. standing proudly at the attention on the air base, eye front. they barely seemed to notice as david petraeus and i went at it like rutting baboons behind the jeep just 50 feet away. pull my hair, general, i begged. pull it hard. and spank me. ♪ help ♪ you know i need someone ♪ help welcome back, everyone. when hurricane sandy hit, it was a race against time. families forced to flee on just a moment's notice. >> unfortunately that sometimes meant leaving their pets behind. tens of thousands were left homeless by the storm. now there's some help out there. abc's bazi kanani has the story. >> reporter: they're the silent victims of superstorm sandy. some of the most helpless and most affected. and now our four-legged friends are finally getting the help they need. southwest airlines and sea world teamed up to fly 60 orphaned cats and dogs from the east coast to the helen woodward animal shelter in california. >> thousands of animals lost their homes, and so we need to move those animals from these shelters to a shelter out on the west coast so we can make room for some of the hurricane sandy animals. >> reporter: the flight crew and veterinarians are volunteering

their time to assist in this operation. and they aren't the only ones helping. the aspca has opened a 20,000-square-foot shelter for displaced pets in new york made possible by the generosity of celebrity chef rachael ray. >> she provided $500,000 donation so we could care for the displaced pets of new york city following the aftermath of hurricane sandy. and we're very gracious. >> reporter: more than 300 animals have been rescued by aspca responders, and along with distributing pet supplies and operating mobile clinics, the aspca has helped nearly 16,000 animals in the sandy affected areas. >> i don't want to leave my dog in a cold apartment. so i am basically bring him here, where he could be taken care of. he is just like my child. >> the goal is to provide the people who have been displaced by hurricane sandy an opportunity to bring their pets in, board them for up to 30 days, and really just focus on getting their lives back together. >> reporter: proving in the
